Space electronic group VEGA was formed in 2006 by Oleg Gurtovoy who is known in Russia for his fruitful cooperation with bestselling artists, as well as for works in cinema, TV and advertising. The instrumental music of the group connects Russian traditional melodicism with electronica.
The VEGA members are: Oleg Gurtovoy, keyboards; Liza Grozdova, keyboards; Dima Simakov, bass, guitars; Feodor Guskov, drums.
Oleg Gurtovoy and VEGA have quickly become popular in Russia among the electronic music lovers.
In 2008 they released their album “Ascension” which is available in the digital stores of the USA, European Union, Australia, New Zealand and Japan. The album was inspired by the defeat of Russian, Chinese and American spacemen. The name of the album refers to the mankind’s ascension to the stars, conquering of the Universe.
The album received positive review of the music press and professional musicians. So, the HMP magazine from Warsaw, Poland, wrote about VEGA: “Vega represent so-called cosmic space synth genre with influences of symphonic and bit operatic music. Most of compositions are dynamic, pompous, majestic and lofty. Obviously, here are also calmer tracks, however even those faster are very relaxing. The material has no weak points, especially as all tunes are hit, catchy and very accessible. This is the stuff for those people who admire electronic virtuosity with touches of Vangelis Papathanassiou, Jean-Michel Jarre, Harold Faltermeyer and guitar playing by Mike Oldfield and Patrick Rondat. With this mind-refreshing work, Oleg Gurtovoy deserved the title of one of the most talented electronic music virtuosos on the globe!"
A legendary keyboardist who played in greatest British rock bands YES, Moody Blues, Refugees, Patrick Moraz, said about VEGA: “Their music carries that Russian emotional feelings found in the music of the composers of that region. And he has “roots” which certainly go far deeper than just “electro-pop” music. His sonic approach is very interesting, original and also very “clean”. Also, and though one can feel some of his “influences”, the music retains a great sense of originality. The changes and the construction of each piece is logical, though sometimes it can be somewhat “unpredictable”, which is very good, because it gives the listener a sense of “knowing” the music, and at the same time “surprise” the listener at some “corners”.
The discography of VEGA also includes several very successful CD-compilations released in 2007-2008 such as leading Russian musicians’s compilations “Ad Astra”, “Stereosummer”, “New Year Serpentine”, “Music of the Blogosphere”.
In 2008 VEGA took part with musicians from the whole world in the USA charity CD compilation “Stomp Out Cancer Presents: Musicians Fight Ewing's Sarcoma, Vol. 2 "Hope". The album had a big resonance in the American society and received good responses from American music critics.
VEGA constantly perform all over Russia. They are often guests at various prestigious events such as the RuNet (Russian Internet) Prize Awards Ceremony, Atr Pozhar festival and others. One of the VEGA’s most successful shows was the performance on Russia’s #1 stage - Moscow Kremlin – with the French superstar group Space.
Their music is heard at a variety of radio and Internet stations in Russia and abroad: Radio 101 (Russia), Special Radio (Russia), NeverEndingWonder Radio (USA), 92.5 KYHY “The Why” FM Radio (USA) and many others in Germany, Poland, Holland, Japan, Australia and so on.
One of VEGA’s compositions was a corporate melody of the Mobile TeleSystems, the biggest mobile operator in East Europe and former USSR. Now it is among the best-selling ringtones and ringbacktones on the Mobile TeleSystems’ portal.
One of VEGA’s compositions was used by Rambler TV as their official tune.
VEGA’s music sounds and sounded in commercials of such companies and organizations as Mobile Telesystems, YUKOS oil company, Party of Life (political party), Russia’s Ministry of Education, Rostokino Lada (the biggest AvtoVAZ car company retailer), Norilsk Nickel, etc.
In 2009 VEGA’s music was the official music of VOLVO Fashion Week in Moscow.
Music of VEGA sounds in several popular movies: “Moskovsky dzhigolo” (Russia), “Advokat (Russia), “Balzakovsky Vozrast” (Russia), “The Two Men” (USA) and others.

In 2006 the frontman of VEGA Oleg Gurtovoy was invited to compose a hymn of the “BibliObraz” festival which took place until year 2008 under the patronage of then first lady of Russia Lyudmila Putina.
